...GIVING ANOTHER BOOK REVIEW.

So, yet again, I find myself watching Oprah one sunny afternoon. Jenny McCarthy happens to be on there this day promoting her tell-all book about life. Yes, I said life. Jenny's book happens to be called Love, Lust and Faking it (I cannot figure out how to underline things on this stupid blogging format)but it is not a book about sex. Rather, it is a light-hearted book about her life and all the chaos thats ensued since she was born.

McCarthy talks about her parents failed marriage, her mom's re-marriage,
her own high school boyfriend and every relationship since. Zodiac signs, Dr. appointments, and intimate moments are also other areas covered. I will not lie and tell you this book is greatly organzied and flows chapter-to-chapter because it simply does not. It does, however, read like an email from a best friend or a story being told by a best friend and I did enjoy that. Who doesn't like to hear a wild jaw-dropping story from your best friend that has been galmourized a little?! :)

So, without going into a professional review about this book (you know, Google does great work) I will instead leave you with several of my favorite parts/quotes. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!!

"You can be in heaven and think, "That guy is playing his harp too loud." and the instant you believe it, you have kicked yourself out of the awareness of heaven."

"The only relationship that is ever going to be meaningful is the relationship you have with yourself. When you love yourself, you love the person you're always with, the person you have woken up with and gone to bed with every day of your life. But unless you love yourself, you won't be comfortable with someone else, because they're going to challenge your belief system, and until you inquire, you've got to do war to defend it. So much for relationships. People make these unspoken contracts with each other and promise each other that they wont ever tamper with the other person's belief systems, and of course, that's not possible."

"STD: the gift that keeps on giving"

"Underneath anger is always a feeling of abandonment, hurt, and powerlessness. Anger is in my opinion a defense mechanism that keeps us from dealing with our real feelings. It's always hurt underneath anger."
-I thought this quote was especially true..at least in my life. I NEVER simply feel angry, its always something else..hurt, disappointment, etc.

"Sex is fun for thirty minutes, but infidelity is torturous for a lifetime" THINK people! :)

"Did you know...the sperm count of an average American male compared to thirty years ago is down 30 percent? Yikes, with that rate, in vitro could be a good stock to buy for the future."

"What are friends for? Well, the real ones hold your hair when you puke, lie to your boyfriend for you, loan you their favorite shirt, pick you up from a one-night
stand, listen to your drama; they dont copy your hairstyle, don't gossip about you, they don't flirt with your man, they're genuinely happy for you and would defend you in any battle. The fake friends go to the hair salon and come back saying the hairdresser accidentally gave them the same haircut as yours. They buy the same clothes as you, get you wasted so they can flirt with your boyfriend, never call to ask how you are doing, won't do a McDonald's run when you're hung over, compete with you, are jealous of you, and will talk behind your back the moment you turn around."

-that was definitely the most powerful quote in all of this to me! Maybe it's just my age or that stage in my life but I am FINALLY figuring out who my real friends are and who are just my "acquaintances". I even posted that exact quote on my best friend's wall because I knew, she knew, exactly what it meant!

So, after reading the entire thing, you can tell there are several funny AND insightful bits in it. This book is not for everybody though, but rather a small group of people...mainly younger women in my opinion. But if you are not in this small demographic and can see through the xxx parts, listen about her "Aunt Flow" and don't mind listening about casual sex, pick it up and have a laugh!!

Final score: ***
Recommend to a friend: Lady friend of my age YES! Anyone else: no
Read again? no
Extra note: I got this book on a Wednesday evening and by Friday evening I had read the entire thing. It is just short of 250 pages and a very quick read!

***THROWBACK THURSDAY***

This is Rachel, myself, and Emily. I think we were probably in 9th grade in this picture so it would have been 2001-2002. Apparently the sun wasn't out that year ;)

Catching on?!?

IT WAS AN 80'S PARTY!!!!!

A friend of ours had a birthday this past weekend and insisted on throwing an 80's party. Rachel was in charge of the decorations, getting the word out, etc so I felt more than obligated to go along with the 80's theme for her sake more than anything. I not only went all out on my outfit but also made Ryan at least wear a neon shirt. He wasn't thrilled about it but when a friend is throwing another friend a party, you HAVE to go along with it, right?! No matter how gross, disgusting, and hideous 80's apparel is/was?!

So, as you can see, I gathered all my neon belongings and began planning. Oh wait-i had NO neon belongings! Nothing. So, to start the adventure, I had to make a run to random stores and find BRIGHT colored things. I found arm bands (pink), legwarmers (rainbow), and eventually found a neon colored sweatshirt for cheap. Then, with the sweatshirt in hand, I went on the hunt and found neon colored fabric paint to splatter paint it.

I did an a-cut on the sweatshirt and then splatter painted it on the kitchen floor a few days in advance. Then gathered my other things I had bought and started piecing together the main parts of my outfit. With the main things taken care of, I topped off the outfit with some plastic jewelry I already had, blue eyeshadow, and a crimped hairstyle. And yes-I actually own a crimper from the 80s and have for as long as I can remember! What I came up with actually turned out super cute (in my opinion of course) and worked well.

I would like to say I partied "like it was 1980" (know that song, Dirt Nasty?)but unfortunately the only party I was having in the 1980's was in my crib. So, instead I'll say..I tried to party like it was the 80's. :)

Enjoy the pictures!

Bump, Nate, and Nick. Isn't Nate's outfit cute?! He wore an old blazer with gold chains and a light pink colored shirt underneath with his jeans rolled..so cute!

and again...

My stunna shades we got at the bar..They were so annoying we couldnt even take a picture with them on because they were in the way so often!

All Ryan wanted to do all night was get home so he could EAT. Finally!

...STILL GLAD TO BE A HAWKEYE!!

Once again, Ryan and I had people over for a Hawkeye game. I REALLY enjoy having people over. It is so much better having people over to our house than everybody going to the bar..much more cozy atmosphere and much cheaper!! Everybody pitches in and brings food (chili, sloppy joes, cheese and crackers, etc) and beer and we just have a nice little time.

Usually the boys play tournaments of bags, place bets on the day's college games, and grill out while the girls gossip. After the bags tournament has ended everybody packs inside to watch the game. It is always a mixture of emotion but some people (like Ryan) are SOOO passionate about the Hawks. It is funny watching their reaction to every play and quite honestly, I think they amp up their performances the more people that are around ;).

Ordinarily when we have people over (in large numbers) the girls have to go to their grandparents. This time though, we decided to keep them here since last time there were little dogs as well and everybody did fine with them. I was so concerned they would get stepped on or be nervous (sometimes they hide when too many people are around) but to my surprise, they did excellent. They hung out with everybody, didn't bark at anyone, and made themselves right at home just as little humans would do :) Funny story: Bobby had his puppy over and it had an accident on our carpet and I went to get toilet paper and bent over to soak it up with the cleaner right beside me and Bella and Dezi both came sprinting over to it the minute they spotted it. They both sniffed it, and then sat there watching me clean it up (just inches away) as though they were sooo proud of themselves thinking "wow, it wasn't US mom is mad at this time."

Perfect Hawkeye Saturday, or ISU Saturday for Rachel, Nate, and Zoey! :)

Dezi and Beef chillin while everybody else is outside

Little Zoey came to the party (Rach's dog)

The game got intense at this point and Dezi had to check it out :)

Bella, Bobby, Skyler, Gaelen, Jason
